StrivePath is a Bay Area–based academic and college planning firm supporting middle and high school students through thoughtful, data-informed advising. We help families navigate high school and admissions with clarity and confidence—prioritizing student well-being, realistic planning, and strong outcomes.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Academic & College Planning Consultant to join our team on a part-time basis ($75/hour), with the option to transition to full-time over time if mutually desired.
This role is well-suited for counselors who enjoy direct student work and want flexibility, professional support, and a sustainable advising model. You’ll work with a defined caseload of students, primarily in person, from one or more of our Bay Area offices (locations across the East Bay, Peninsula, South Bay, and Marin).
Key Responsibilities
Student Advising
- Advise middle and high school students on academic planning and college admissions strategy
- Guide students through UC, CSU, and Common App application processes
- Conduct 1:1 advising sessions with students and families (primarily in person)
- Support students with course planning, time management, goal-setting, and decision-making
Admissions Expertise
- Stay current on admissions trends, institutional priorities, and policy changes
- Translate admissions context into practical guidance for families
Curriculum & Collaboration
Utilize StrivePath’s structured curriculum and shared tools for consistency and efficiency
Collaborate with fellow consultants to share insights and best practices
Document advising strategies and student progress to support continuous improvement
Programming
- Participate in workshops and seminars (in-person and occasional virtual) for students and parents
Experience
- Prior experience in college admissions counseling or related advising work
- Strong familiarity with UC, CSU, and Common App systems
- Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
- Professional affiliations (HECA, WACAC, NACAC, etc.) are a plus
Skills & Style
- Strong communicator with students, parents, and colleagues
- Organized, thoughtful, and comfortable managing a caseload
- Independent judgment paired with a collaborative mindset
- Curious, reflective, and student-centered
Technology
- Comfortable with Google Workspace; experience with College Planner Pro and Notion is a plus
Compensation & Structure
- Part-time: $75/hour
- Opportunity to move to full-time for those interested
- Flexible scheduling within defined student commitments
- In-person advising is a core part of the role
