The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $72,228 – $87,624 based on experience.

About the role:
The Associate Director, Veteran Services provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team dedicated to supporting military-affiliated students. This position oversees campus-wide Veterans Services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive. From advising individual students to designing innovative initiatives, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring military-connected students feel supported and valued.

You’ll also act as the university’s expert on veteran educational benefits, guiding students and the campus community on policies and procedures while ensuring timely and accurate service delivery.

What you will be doing:

Lead, train, and mentor professional and student staff to foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Ensure the team provides exceptional service that empowers military-affiliated students to achieve academic and personal success.
Design and implement innovative academic support programs to promote retention, academic excellence, and timely graduation for veterans, service members, and their dependents.
Provide personalized advising to help students achieve their educational and career goals.
Serve as the campus authority on veteran educational benefits, offering expert knowledge on policies and procedures from the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. and California Departments of Veterans Affairs, and CSULB.
Collaborate with campus stakeholders to analyze data, identify emerging trends, and recommend enhancements to services and programs.
Advocate for military-connected students by participating in campus-wide committees and responding to community needs, including during times of crisis.
Manage student data and ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.
Prepare and deliver impactful presentations to campus leadership and student groups, highlighting the needs and achievements of military-affiliated students.
Build relationships with external organizations to enhance resources and opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with upper or graduate coursework in counseling, guidance, or human relations.
Four years of professional experience in student services, including advising, program development, or administrative roles.
Expertise in U.S. and California Department of Veteran Affairs education benefits, including experience with VA Once.
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a proven ability to handle complex workloads and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with university systems and databases for student services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education, especially in a role supporting military veterans and service members.
Comprehensive knowledge of advising systems and procedures in a university setting.
Strong leadership and team-building skills with a commitment to fostering professional development.
