Position Title: Part-Time Application Reader – Undergraduate Admissions

Department: Office of Admissions
Reports To: Director of Admissions or Sr Associate Director of Admissions
Location: Remote
Position Type: Part-Time / Seasonal (Nov – Mar)
Compensation: $20/hour for approximately 20 hours per week

Position Summary:

The Part-Time Application Reader plays a key role in the undergraduate admissions process by evaluating first-year student applications in accordance with institutional guidelines and holistic review practices. This is a temporary, seasonal position, typically active during the admissions reading cycle (e.g., November through March).

Readers are expected to commit to a consistent weekly schedule and meet productivity benchmarks while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate and score undergraduate applications using holistic review methods.
Assess academic performance, extracurricular activities, personal statements, letters of recommendation, and other application components.
Follow established rubrics and institutional policies to ensure consistency and fairness.
Participate in training sessions prior to the reading season and ongoing calibration meetings during the cycle.
Maintain confidentiality of applicant information in compliance with FERPA and institutional policies.
Meet weekly reading goals and provide accurate, timely, and well-documented evaluations.
Engage in discussions with admissions staff and other readers as needed to support admission decisions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in education or counseling
Strong reading comprehension, analytical, and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
High attention to detail and ability to apply evaluation criteria consistently.
Comfort using digital platforms and reading systems (e.g., Slate, Workday, or other CRM systems).
Discretion in handling confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in college admissions, counseling, or education.
Familiarity with holistic admissions practices and diverse educational backgrounds.
Master’s degree or advanced education in a related field.

Work Conditions & Expectations:

Seasonal, remote work (unless otherwise specified).
Time commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.
Must attend mandatory training and periodic calibration sessions.
Must provide own computer with access to modern browser, reliable internet, and secure workspace.
