Position Summary
This position is a full-time, eleven month position. SHC college advisors work collaboratively and individually with students, families, teachers, school counselors, and colleges/universities to guide students throughout the college admission and matriculation process.

Responsibilities and Duties
Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic educator;
Facilitate SHC’s mission and philosophy and Counseling and Advising Department outcomes (see;
Support approximately 70-80 seniors each year, starting in the spring of junior year, in researching and applying for admission and financial aid for college;
Design and present college research, planning, and application workshops/seminars to groups of students and families at all grade levels, with a focus on expanding access to college;
Hold individual meetings with eleventh-grade and twelfth-grade parents and students;
Facilitate occasional evening and weekend meetings and out of town college tours;
Collaborate to plan and supervise college tours;
Be proficient with accessing, analyzing, and communicating complex information and data to a variety of audiences and in a variety of media;
Keep accurate records of the advising process in college and career planning platform (Naviance), school learning management system (Schoology), and student information system (PowerSchool);
Write letters of recommendation for college admissions and scholarships, preparing and sending Secondary School Reports to colleges, universities and scholarship sources, and midyear reports as necessary or requested;
In collaboration with the Registrar, prepare reports related to college application, admission, and matriculation for internal and external use;
Publicize scholarships and grant funding opportunities to advisees and their parents;
Continue to learn professionally, taking college admissions workshops, particularly those presented by UC, CSU, and the College Board;
Build effective professional relationships with admissions officers through membership in and attendance at WACAC & NACAC meetings, and through participation in local and national professional networks;
Meet directly with college admissions officers at SHC and throughout the country;
Attend and participate in Counseling and Advising Department and learning team meetings and workshops;
Participate in the co-curricular life of the school;
Engage in in professional development, especially our four-year New Faculty Professional Development and Support Program, to be a reflective and growth-minded practitioner who integrates best and next teaching practices rooted in the SHC mission;
Actively participate in SHC’s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices;
Participate in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs.
