Reach Higher Initiative

Reach Higher, an initiative launched by former First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama in 2014, is designed to inspire a college-going culture, ultimately leading to an increase in post-secondary access and success for our nation’s students. With a focus on first-generation and low-income youth the initiative is centered around activating support systems to help students gain access to the tools and opportunities they need to Reach Higher and obtain a post-secondary degree, whether at a traditional four-year college, a two-year community college or through an industry-recognized training program.

WACAC has been involved in Reach Higher from its inception, with WACAC leaders involved in the national convenings and meetings.  The California Team has been co-chaired by Dr. Esther Hugo, WACAC Past-President.  The training series is a joint effort of WACAC and CASC, the California Association for School Counselors.

WACAC members involved in the creation of the Counselor Training Series are: Catalina Cifuentes, Ed Devine, Terri Devine, Joanne Ehret Farrell, Noor Haddad, Peggy Hock, Esther Hugo, Jamilla Jamison, Edgar Montes, Phil Moreno, and Katy Murphy.
