Led by the Director of Admissions, the Office of Admissions is housed in a multi-unit Enrollment Management (EM) department within the Division of Academic Affairs, under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) Enrollment Management. EM is comprised of seven high-profile, core functional units including the Office of Admissions, the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, Student Affairs Technology Services (SATS), Creative & Analytical Services, Cal-SOAP, Parent & Family Programs, and the Business Office. EM’s core functions oversee undergraduate admissions, continuing student enrollment management, and financial aid and scholarship management.

The Office of Admissions leads the university’s efforts to identify, recruit, admit, and enroll the next generation of UC San Diego Tritons with focus on talented, academically capable, California students, representative of the diversity of the people of California. The mission of the office includes increasing the visibility of UC San Diego in California, the nation and world, through marketing and on- and off- campus recruitment activities to prospective freshmen and transfer students and their families; school counselors; community college leaders and advisors; community based organizations; and educational organizations serving groups historically underrepresented on our campus. The Office of Admissions hosts more than 80,000 visitors and receives, processes, and reviews over 116,000 applications for admission annually. The office works collaboratively with on-and off-campus partners to achieve university goals.

The Associate Director of Admissions-Application Review is responsible for the management and execution of the discrete evaluations of all undergraduate applicants to UC San Diego. This position is responsible for formulating policies and procedures, as well as processes, functions, planning, and personnel for the Application Review unit in the Office of Admissions. Develops the long- and short-term organizational goals of the unit, as well as continually formulates recommendations and implements changes to the admission policies and UC San Diego selection criteria. The incumbent independently applies broadly written admissions policies and regulations determined by the UC Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools (BOARS), the UC San Diego faculty Committee on Admissions (COA), a subcommittee of the Academic Senate, the Associate Vice Chancellor, and the Director of Admission. The Associate Director solves problems requiring interpretation of existing guidelines, practices, and procedures and is authorized to act on and enforce university and campus policies and procedures. The Associate Director of Admissions-Application Review represents the office internally and externally and is responsible for advising services to UC San Diego students who complete coursework outside of the University. The incumbent will also serve as the expert advisor and liaison to high school and community college counselors on UC and UC San Diego admission policies and procedures – serving as an official representative of the University of California and UC San Diego. This position, in consultation with the Director of Admissions, assists in the management of the operating budget and staffing of the Application Review unit.
