Marymount is an Independent, Catholic all-girls high school that fosters confidence, joy, leadership, and a sense of greater purpose in each student. Education of the whole girl is one of the most important pillars upon which the academic and co-curricular programs are built. Established in 1923 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), Marymount High School shares the tradition of an international network of schools including sister schools in New York, Europe, and South America. We are located in Westwood/Bel Air, just north of UCLA in Los Angeles.
Position Overview
  • Advise students about college options and the application processes, counseling them about self-understanding, self-presentation, and making academic and personal choices.
  • Foster effective interpersonal conversations with students, both one-on-one and in workshop and group settings: college nights, seminars   and class
  • Work with parents/guardians to include them as informed and supportive partners in the college counseling process.
  • Coordinate and manage the efforts of College Counseling, ensuring that application materials and school documents are sent in a timely manner.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the college application and admission procedures and financial aid programs to determine the implications of these changes for students and school programs.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, including making regular visits to colleges and developing relationships with admission office representatives as appropriate.
  • Provide academic course advising for rising juniors and seniors.
  • Serve on the Heads Council, Academic Council, Student Life Team, and on other committees as assigned.
  • Support and train faculty in the writing of effective letters of recommendation.
  • Produce and keep current the School Profile.
  • Oversee College Counseling office budget.
  • Support College Counseling team efforts with the school website and other related platforms.
  • Be an active community member, participating in division-specific duties and the general support and care of the school community.
  • Participate in evening, weekend, and overnight programs as required.
  • Meet with college representatives and establish solid working relationships with admissions counselors throughout the country.
  • Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles and beliefs.
  • Create an environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of view.
  • Engage actively in the Marymount School community, including attending sporting events, performing arts productions, and other student activities.
  • Share chaperone responsibilities with College Counseling team members for college trips.
  • Act as an advocate for students, and attend state and national conferences.
