Director of College and Career Counseling

Making Waves Academy is a public charter school located in Richmond, California.  We serve students in grades 5-12 and focus on addressing the disparity in educational opportunities.  At Making Waves Academy, we strive to rigorously and holistically prepare our scholars to gain acceptance and graduate from college.

The Director of College & Career Counseling will lead school-wide efforts to create a learning environment where each student at Making Waves Academy can explore a continuum of post-secondary pathways, with an emphasis on college. This role will lead and supervise the College and Career Counseling Team and also directly support instruction and train faculty and staff in preparing and supporting students to effectively engage in the college admissions and selection process. The Director of College and Career Counseling will also develop, manage, and implement a “case management” system using technological tools such as Naviance to track the progress of students and their goals around developing a “resume” that aligns with their interests, passions, community service, career interests, and academic accomplishments with their selection of potential colleges and careers. In addition, the Director of College and Career Counseling will get to know MWA families and students to build the necessary rapport to help our students navigate the college admissions and financial aid processes and formulate a systematic approach to developing and organizing college access educational opportunities for students and families from 5th-12th grades.
